This is an attempt to visually document 10 days of the Social History Workshop in Aswan.
Tracing the evolution of power structures through the critical reading of maps of Cairo
Who drew Cairo?
Who ruled this city? And how?

These are questions that have been answered through historic texts and documents, yet rarely through maps. What is interesting about maps is their representational nature that embodies hidden signs and goals. I start by the assumption that the evolution of the power structures that controlled Cairo could be traced in a timeline of its maps. Thus, an alternative narrative of the history, present and possibly the future of the city could be outlined.
